Position: Lead Teacher 

Supervisor: Director 

Education: Completed Early Childhood

​

Job Summary: Instructing children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth. Work together with staff members to give each child quality care, education, and exploration of themselves, their environment and others. 

 

Experience: Minimum of one year experience working in a child care center.

 

Qualifications: Knowledge of lesson plan preparation. Work well with others. Must have the ability: to maintain flexibility with work assignment, to communicate appropriately with parents and co-workers and to complete required task and paperwork on time. 

 

Work Schedule: 30-40 hours per week 

Salary range: $15.00 -$18.00 per hour 

 

Requirements for employment: Physical Exam, Negative TB test, fingerprints, Criminal 'Records Check. 

  • All lead teachers will be required to receive the following: CPR & First Aid, BSAC, SIDS, and Playground Safety. 

  • Also any additional workshop hours required by the NC Division of Child Development. 

 

Job responsibilities: 

Planning the environment: 

  • Develop and maintain weekly lesson plans that align with Creative Curriculum.

  • Understand and fulfill the NC Child Care requirements for room arrangement. Keep accurate daily attendance. 

  • Prepare regular observations of each child. 

  • Prepare accurate reports such as incident reports. 

  • Maintain classroom files. 

  • Label cots/mats, cubbies, and maintain each child's individual belongings.

  • Rotate toys and materials to keep children interested and engaged in activities. 

  • Gather materials needed based on the lesson plan. 

  • Maintain safety and cleanliness in the classroom. See cleaning schedules for classroom, share responsibilities with Assistant teacher. 

 

Planning Activities: 

  • Prepare lesson plans that foster a learning environment for indoor and outdoor play. 

  • Maintain theme based creativity when decorating in the classroom. 

  • Incorporate daily teaching of good morals and character. 

  • Use developmentally appropriate activities for all children.

  • Teach children fire and weather safety. (how to carry out fire and tornado drills safely) 

 

Interaction with children: 

  • Supervise children at all times. 

  • Assist with feeding/toileting. 

  • Lead during group time activities and individual activities. 

  • Ask opened questions to foster creativity. 

  • Spend adequate time with each child daily. 

  • Use effective role modeling of proper behavior. 

  • Listen to children to fully understand what they are expressing. 

  • Redirect children in an effort to keep them on task and to curtail negative behavior. 

 

Communicating with children, parents and staff: 

  • Be professional at all times.

  • Use vocabulary properly as a role model to the children. 

  • Share daily reports of the child's day with parents(verbally & in writing) Participate in parent-staff meetings 

  • Participate in family involvement activities. 

  • Be respectful to children, parents and staff. 

  • Report any conflict with parents, staff, etc. to the Director. 

  • Do not display any anger or hostility towards any child, parent, or staff  member. (This could be grounds for termination.) 

 

Other responsibilities include: (but are not limited to) â€‹

  • Assist in training assistant teachers, new staff, volunteers and substitute teachers.

  • Complete annual in-service training hours. 

  • Comply with all center policies. 

  • Participate in fund raisers and parent involvement activities. 

  • Be willing to perform other duties requested by Director.
